Eastern & Oriental Express Chiang Mai to Bangkok (for departures until April 2007)
Thursday: Departs 12:30 Chiang Mai IMake yourself comfortable in your compartment as the Eastern & Oriental Express departs Chiang Mai before a delicious lunch will be served in one of the marvellous dining cars. The train will arrive in Lampang, where you may disembark to stretch your legs. Then a gourmet dinner will be served in one of the sumptuous dining cars. Why not enjoying some delicious cocktails at the bar car whilst listening to the resident pianist before retiring to your compartment, which has been transformed into a comfortable bedroom by your personal steward?
Friday: Arrives 08:45 Kanchanaburi. Guided tour of Kwai and boat-ride.Your steward will serve your breakfast including freshly baked croissants before the E&O will arrive at Kanchanaburi, where you leave the train for a photo opportunity of the famous Eastern & Oriental Express crossing the just as famous Bridge over the River Kwai. Now a traditional large floating barge will take you for a cruise along the River Kwai passing many beautiful Thai teakwood houses amidst peaceful lush scenery. A short coach ride transfers you to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre where a local historian will provide an informative tour through the air-conditioned museum. Before the E&O will arrive mid afternoon at Bangkok a last delicious lunch will be served. Departs Kanchanaburi 11:25. Arrives Bangkok (Hualampong) 14:45.
